Better scrap silicon furnace will yield purer solar silicon
Melt down
A JAPANESE FIRM has designed a furnace which will melt scrap silicon and produce purer polycrystal silicon.
According to nikkei.net, Noritake will soon start selling furnaces which use tungsten linings rather than carbon, allowing higher yields of purer polysilicon and reducing maintenance.
Scrap silicon is of relatively high purity in any case but, the report claims, using tungsten rather than carbon inner linings will create extremely pure polysilicon.
Noritake will start selling the melt furnaces later this year at competitive prices. The INQuirer
