By invitation only
THE FBI has swooped on Second Life's Internet casinos to see if it is breaking US online gambling laws.
But the feds did not break down any virtual doors, they were there at the invitation of the virtual world's creator Linden Labs.
Linden Labs general counsel and currently vice president for business affairs Ginsu Yoon said Second Life had asked the FBI to snoop around and raise any concerns it might have.
He said that Linden Labs wanted guidance on virtual gaming activity in Second Life but had not yet received clear rules from the US government.
There are hundreds of casinos offering poker, slot machines and blackjack on Second Life. They make about $1,500 each per month which is not exactly Vegas.
However, Linden Labs is a little concerned as the US government has been taking a dim view of gambling lately and arrested executives from offshore gambling Web sites.
