Rambus gets to pocket DRAM royalties
Look to the future
THE FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION (FTC) stayed part of its own remedy order relating to Rambus royalties on SDRAM.
The FTC said because the remedy for what it considers to be a Rambus malaise is "forward looking", that means the IP firm doesn't need to refund royalties it's collected in the past, and can carry on pursuing past royalties.
And as Rambus is appealing, although some think different, the FTC also said it can collect royalties on SDRAM and DDR SDRAM during the period of the stay. That's provided funds above the rate it's allowed is put into an escrow account, with an appeal court ultimately deciding who should get the divvie up. Rambus (RMBS) closed down 24 cents at $19.83 at close on NASDAQ
