Dell to eat up 20 million AMD chips
And so it goes, report claims

DIGITIMES reckons that Dell, now it's finally dropped its solo-Intel stance, will buy as many as 20 million CPOUs from AMD for its desktops, its servers and its notebooks between the fourth quarter of 2006 and the fourth quarter of 2007.

That's quite a lot, it could go some way towards explaining why some people are having trouble sourcing their processors from AMD over the summer period.

Digitimes reckons that the specifics of this are that four milllion CPUs out of the 20 million will go into notebook systems. If this turns out to be true, it will fundamentally change PC market politics. We wonder what Intel thinks about all of this. In some ways it's down to Intel because it hasn't loved Dell quite as much as it used to in the old days. And everyone wants to be loved, don't we.
