After an appeal from the mother of a murder victim who's killer was obsessed with so-called "violent internet pornography" the UK government has announced a crackdown on those possesing the material.Anyone found with such content will be punishable with up to three years in prison.Liz Longhurst, who's 31 year-old daughter Jane was alledgedly strangled by violent-porn-addict Graham Coutts in April 2003 has fought a long and hard battle but finally had her case backed by many MPs and gained a petition of 50,000 signatures.Home Office Minister Vernon Coaker MP said: "Such material has no place in our society but the advent of the internet has meant that this material is more easily available and means existing controls are being by-passed - we must move to tackle this."The legislation will outlaw "material featuring violence that is, or appears to be, life-threatening or is likely to result in serious and disabling injury."Whether prohibition of this material, especially on the internet, will work is an altogether different issue.
