ATI's RV505 to come in three variants
350 to 600 MHz
THE UPCOMING RV505 chip will come in three different flavours. The fastest one will quietly replace RV515LE and RV516PRO chips and will be known as the RV505PRO chip. It will work at 600MHz and will have the same feature set as the RV515/516 but it will be smaller and possibly a little bit cooler as well.
The second chip is set to replace RV515LE and RV516LE. The new 80 nanometre RV505LE will work at 450MHz and will be very popular with OEMs.
The third chip will be a new debut for ATI. ATI plans to make the Radeon X1300CE and will use RV505CE chips working at 350MHz for these cards. We are sure that this is mainly an OEM card as it won't be the fastest around, but will at least be faster than Intel's integrated stuff.
RV505LE and RV505CE will support 64 bit and even 32 bit memory configurations and will focus mainly on turbo cache, system memory addressing. All RV505 chips will coexist with RV515 and RV516 for the time being, but naturally ATI will try to move to RV505 production as fast as it can, as it is cheaper for the company to produce them. Eighty nanometre chips are 17 per cent smaller and with good yields it's cheaper to ramp them than the 90 nanometre chips.
