Pioneer Releases First 1080p 50" Plasma
Way back in January, at CES, Pioneer unveiled their Elite PureVision PRO-FHD1 1080p plasma monitor and promised a June 2006 release. Sure, they are a little late to market, but this one seems worth the wait. The PRO-FHD1 is the very first sub-60" plasma display to support and display full 1920x1080 resolution. This was definitely no small feat. Each of the 2,073,600 pixels is a mere .576mm large. That's a whopping 53% decrease in size from the pixels in their PDP-5060 model (1366x768 resolution). The technical advancements don't stop there. Pioneer has also placed a crystal emissive layer between the glass and light cells. This crystal layer allows each cell to charge and discharge three times more quickly allowing for a brighter picture with higher black levels. For those of you wondering about some of the specifications, the PRO-FHD1 sports a 3,000:1 contrast ratio with a 1000cd/m2 peak brightness. In terms of connections, the unit has two HDMI, one DVI, and one component input. Most noticeably missing, however, is a built in tuner. The PRO-FHD1 doesn't include an ATSC or NTSC tuner. Want one? A cool $10,000 US will buy you one to call your own. View: Pioneer PRO-FHD1 News source: Engadget Read full story...
