I know we've been down this road before, but spotted this post in the newsgroup: alt graphics photoshop.

"Warning info.

Beware of Adobe spyware. Check the following post for how to disable.

PS7 phones home during installation to validate its serial number, and I believe it may do the same during each startup. I'm pretty sure there's a way to circumvent that (delete the right file, or edit something or another) so it doesn't do that.

However, it's probably fairly common for people with an illicit copy of PS7 to not know that, put in a serial number while they're online and haven't hacked their copy at all, and voila, Adobe has another one for their blacklist.

Follow up:

It is AOM .exe found in Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Web
I renamed it AOM.xxx , it is now dead
I don't like spyware no matter what it does.

Stephan "

Take it for what it's worth, but the point that was made in another post was how did Adobe come up with all those illegal serial numbers if their product didn't call home?

Hmmmm......I wonder....

Also it was mentioned that "check for updates" should be unchecked.

I was unable to find this file. (AOM.exe)

They get the blacklisted serial just the way everyone else does, from crack sites. Get some of the latest updates for Serials 2k, those are blacklisted, that is how they get shit. It doesn't have to be from a call home, i watched PS7 startup with a packet sniffer, nothing was sent to adobe nor did it try to connect at all.

It seems to me that your Firewall should detect an outgoing file calling home and ask you wether or not you wish to let it go through!

My 2 cents if they are even worth $0.02!
