Yahoo censorship vow
Internet portal giant Yahoo has revealed it is committed to an unrestricted internet, despite allegations claiming the company aided the imprisonment of two Chinese dissidents.

The online giant claims to be "deeply concerned" over government pressure to impose censorship, and says it supports freedom of information, but will adhere to local governmental law where applicable.

In a press release the company said: "Private industry alone cannot effectively influence foreign government policies on issues like the free exchange of ideas."

Yahoo goes on to say: "Where a government requests we restrict search results, we will do so
if required by applicable law and only in a way that impacts the
results as narrowly as possible."

The company were accused of supplying China's government with information leading to the imprisonment of online writer Li Zhi for eight years in 2003, and in a seperate case reporter Shi Tao.
