Firms to throw $10 billion at Intel Itanium
For a gazillion dollar moreA REPORT said a cabal of nine firms will plunge $10 billion more into promoting the Intel Itanium processor - the chip which consumes billions as easily as our Charlie quaffs gallons of soda.
According to news.com, the cabal includes usual suspects Intel, HP, SGI, NEC, Unisys, Hitachi, Groupe Bull, Fujitsu/Siemens and NEC.
The site quotes Tom Kilroy as saying the Itanium is on the "right trajectory but wants to go faster". The whole big tin market is worth around $140 billion according to Kilroy, and the Itanium wants to eat up IBM and Sun's RISC offerings. The announcement is part of the Itanium Solutions Alliance's big push in the big tin trenches.
