First WiMAX Products Officially Certified
The first four WiMAX products have received certification from the WiMAX Forum, the organization said yesterday. Though more than 150 deployments and trials of WiMAX products have already been launched and tested, the certification marks the official launch of the wireless technology.

WiMAX is a wireless broadband standard that promises high-speed wireless communications over long distances. Approved last year, the WiMAX 802.16-2004 standard will be in use in these first batches of products which operate at frequencies in the 3.5GHz range. The standard boasts speeds over 70Mbps over distances of 30 miles or more.

The WiMAX Forum's testing lab, Cetecom Spain, is currently testing 26 more products for certification.
