It is just not the same under Novell
THE FOUNDER of SuSE Linux, Hubert Mantel has quit Novell, which bought his company early last year.
In a brief letter emailed to a SuSE mailing list, Mantel said that he could no longer work for Novell. SuSE was no longer the company he founded 13 years ago.
He said that he was confident that Novell would find someone to replace him fairly quickly, although it was uncertain if that was just a bit of sarcasm. Novell has axed a large number of staff lately, although the company says that has not included many people from its Linux teams.
Novell spinners said that Mantel's departure would not impact its Linux strategy, but it must lend some weight to those who fear that the company is losing the plot a bit over SuSE. In May, former SuSE president Richard Seibt cleared his desk at Novell too. More
