Intel confirms Itanium schedule screwed up
THE WALL STREET Journal has confirmed many of our earlier stories that Intel's Itanium schedule is a little, er, cough. Not right.
Although the Journal has the story almost right, a woman called Erica Fields who works for Intel claims the Montecito thing planned for early next year will be delayed for about six months.
Pat Gelsinger, enterprise director of Intel, denied, denied, and denied again there was a problem with Montecito at its last Developers Conference.
Ms Fields told the Journal Intel had run into manufacturing problems - which she called "issues" - and said its Tukwila chip wasn't likely to arrive until 2008. Montvale is delayed too. But then you read all of this on the INQ months and even years ago, didn't you?
