I have installed all the releases of SP1 for XP. But, SP1 v1097 was the first on that I got a Norton Firewall prompt asking if I wanted to allow IE to access the internet (something in SP1 was requesting a website). I "allowed" it, and all went fine...and the install completed a couple minutes later.

What is different in this version that needed internet access? I was a little confused.

Bads is an unknown quantity at this point
I was not connected when I update to SP1 1097 but this is shure the first time you lunch IE or Outlook after an update, NIS will ask if you want to permit access

After all the SP1 installation, I was asking to let or not IE connect to internet.

This is the job of a firewall

Bads, you are correct, but what I mean is that this happened DURING the install, without me attempting to launch IE or Outlook. Neither were running at the time. The install was still going, I was prompted by Norton, allowed it to connect, and then a few minutes later, the install was complete and I had to then reboot.

I am confused since none of the other versions caused this, and I am wondering if this was an attempt by MS to send my reg. information to them....during the install....

When I installed it I told it NO and it continued. Just too see what would happen, as always did a cold reboot and all seems fine.

Ok jefexp,

I understand more now.

But I'm never connected when I apply Sp1 because I have to "disable" anti-spy XP and i never receive this warning from NIS

And after a reboot, before I connect to internet, I enable Anti-spy XP and no information is send to MS

I'm not shure but I think

Same thing here, I took a screenie of the ZoneAlarm alert, and it says update.exe wanted to access 207.68.131.229:80. Lookup says it's a Microsoft server (duh ). Wonder if they want to keep track of how many people using SP1 or logging PIDs

@ gosh :
If you have nothing better to say, don't say anything... NO flames allowed.

@ jefexp :
Pasting 207.68.131.229:80 into your browser, will take you to MS Windows Update, it might have been an attempt
to make a dynamic update during the installation. :-?

I just installed build 1102 and I did not get a prompt this time. What I am guessing happened is the build 1097 updated one of the files IE uses, so when that happened, Norton detected a new file and (as it should) prompted me to allow it.

I am guessing, but maybe the other builds, including 1102, did not update IE files, so Norton did not see it as anything different.

Just a guess though....
