The EU Commission has asked Symantec to provide information allowing it to come to an assessment from an antitrust perspective of Microsoft's integrated antivirus and antispyware solution. Symantec has informally lodged a complaint with the European Commission about Microsoft's plans to enter the computer security market. The Commission as executive organ of the European Union must decide whether or not the cartel authorities are to launch investigations.
Preliminary reports over the weekend had hinted at steps to this effect by Symantec. Now a Symantec spokesman has told British newspapers that though the company had not launched an official complaint, the EU had nonetheless asked for relevant information on the topic. The antivirus software manufacturer had acceded to the request, its spokesman declared.
