PlayStation awarded an Emmy
TEN YEARS, almost three consoles now and one big handheld spinoff later and the Sony PlayStation has been awarded an Emmy for Outstanding Achievement in Technology and Advanced New Media.
Having "pioneered the 3D polygonal-based gaming experience" and reached its tenth birthday this week the award is a deserved one, for the PlayStation has not only been at the forefront of console gaming, almost single handedly creating the worldwide market in which it is now battling with Microsoft for supremacy, but it has also opened up western gamers to huge swathes of Japanese culture, videogame and otherwise. The Emmy will be presented at the 57th annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards in New Jersey and Sony US president Kaz Hirai will be collecting the award on behalf of the company.
