Changing Program Files Directory
Hi All, I went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion and changed the value from C:\Program Files to E:\Applications in the key called ProgramFilesDir.

Now every Application I install, defaults to the new location: E:\Applications\Roxio\ for example.

There is a slight prorgam with the new config. Outlook Express fails to start. Two errors come one after the other.

Error 01:
Code:
Error 02:

Cause is still under investigation. If anybody have an idea fixing, input is very much appreciated.

Cheers,
McoreD

yeah, i already have the same error when i try to change the directory of Outlook!
I just make the default directory back how it was and everything was ok after!!
I think you can do that with any else prog you install in widows.. but i think that any prog that come with windows, will crash if you change the default dir!!

I believe you just need to change the store folder:

Outlook Express > Tools > Options > Maintenance Tab > Store Folder Button > Change ...

The problem is, Will, that I can't even start OE.

I will try changing it using Registry though. Thanks.

Changing the store doesn't help. My store and address book are already on a separate data drive, but I got precisely the same result as McoreD when I made his registry change, installed a little program, then tried OE. OE was restored when I changed the program files directory back again. Perhaps a script to change before installation and another to change back later.

Moving Outlook Express folder from D:\Program Files to E:\Application didn't work.

However I finally got it to work! The changed didn't even require a reboot.

I did a lot of Registry replacing, looking for %ProgramFiles% and replacing it by absolute paths.

Subkeys were a lot like this:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{B7AAC06 0-2638-11d1-83A9-00C04FBD7C09}\InprocServer32

In my case:
from: %ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msoe.dll
to: D:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msoe.dll

from: %ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\oeimport.dll
to: D:\Program Files\Outlook Express\oeimport.dll

Hope this helps someone.

Cheers,
McoreD
