Intel Developer Forum And India's dams unsafe
INTEL SPEAKER and University of Berkeley geezer Eric Brewer, in a speech about IT in the developing world revealed that India's 25 dams are potential deathtraps and completely unsafe.
Eric said that IT is not for web access in developing countries but for the things that matter, such as health and commerce. He cited successful developing country examples like Grameen Bank, a Bangladeshi bank that started off tiny in a village in 1976 but now hsd over 1,000 branches out of 42,000 villages. Other examples were technology proved useful was in last year's devastating Tsunami, where village members were actually saved since a few villagers received warnings on their mobile phones.
