Opera Watch, the insider blog run by Opera users, is reporting that Opera representatives visited the four largest Universities in the United States that have signed up with Opera.
Opera Introduced free site licences for primary, secondary and higher education schools earlier this year. Schools now can get free licences of Opera, without advertisements, for use in the school premises for educational use. This is also in effort to meet with the students and the schools' security against potential threats students may encounter while on the Internet.
The Universities visited by Opera representatives included University of Arizona, Penn State University, University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Illinois.
The Opera web browser can be fully customized to the needs of each school, as quoted from Opera:
"The Opera browser is fully customizable depending on each school's particular needs. For example, a university can use its school colors and mascot in the design of the browser's buttons, backgrounds and borders comprising the user interface. The Opera browser also features a communication banner where the school can insert news or other announcements for its students. This feature can be used as a line of communication between the school and its students.
Other educational institutions that have signed up for Opera's free site licence include Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, Oxford University, Georgia Institute of Technology, and Duke University.
