Microsoft's Virtual Server 2005 Service Pack 1, due by the end of the year, will feature support for Linux.
Microsoft chief, Steve Ballmer, said the move was designed to help customers run heterogenous networks.
"We will add support for non-Windows virtual machines running on our Virtual Server, including Linux," he said. "Virtualisation," he added, "is an area of intense interest and activity for us. Driving virtualisation is a key technology to facilitate better compatibility and lower total cost of ownership."
Ballmer was speaking at Microsoft's management summit in Las Vegas where he unveiled a beta vesrion of the Service Pack.
Currently, users running Virtual Server can run operating systems such as Linux within Virtual Server but the Vole does not support the practice.
Now, it appears Microsoft is prepared to bring its nemesis into the fold.
Meanwhile, it seems an other Service Pack from the Vole, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, brought with it more problems than it may have solved.
As you can see here, there's a great long list of applications that suffered 'regression' caused by intsllation of the software, including a bundle made by Microsoft itself.
