Microsoft AntiSpyware F#$%^# my PC
I installed the newest version of Microsoft AntiSpyware yesterday afternoon.

What a disaster. Everything seemed fine untill I tried dailing into the internet last night. It seems somehow Microsoft AntiSpyware disabled or locked my ports and I could not do anything. Ended up reloading XP on another HD and this is why I am here now.

Don't know if anyone might have an idea of what happened. When trying to d/l email OE said there was a "socket error" of some sorts. Can this be fixed?

Not 100% sure it was Microsoft AntiSpyware, but 90%.

Yes very sorry to hear that. After reading your post I uninstalled it from my main system just to be safe.

That's funny, I first installed it just trying to be safe... from spyware.

DopeWeasel can only hope to improve
That's the nature of beta software. Sometimes you get some great ideas that work well, other times (especially when M$ is involved) it can screw up more then you would hope for.

Sounds more like a Winsock LSP issue. This normally happens after removing spyware that scewes up your computer after uninstall. Damn spyware writres do this in "revenge" for deleteing this spyware.

You could have fixed with Microsoft AntiSpyware itself using Tools > Advanced Tools > System Explorers > Winsock LSPs.

Or LSP Fix of course from:

Will, thanks a lot for that info. Now that I think about it I did use MS Antispyware to remove Newdotnet and Webhancer if I remeber correctly. Wish I new about LSP Fix then. So, it seems that MS was not directly to blame for my problem.

Well, as they say, you learn something new every day. Thanks again for the info.
