I've changed a new motherboard (with a new CPU & memory chips, and a different video card). Since then, the XP can no longer boot properly. Bluse screen every time I try to boot it. Blue screen even I boot into the safe mode.
Anyone has the similar experience?
Is there any solution for this kind problem?
Thanks.

I've had similar problems that was caused by hardware that was not compatible with xp. maybe you should check out h*tp://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/compati...ity/default.asp and see if all your hadware is compatible with xp. thats just a guess but it might be the problem...
could be something simple, i hade a joystick that xp hated for somereason and would crash all the time. but I unplugged the joy stick and everything worked just find heh

I remember something about if you change so much % of the hardware it will not let you boot up so the best thing to do is reinstall.

Thanks all for the quick response.
I basically replaced the old Pentium motherboard with a P-II mother board; vedio card also chagend from a old PCI one to a AGP one. Other controllers are just moved over.
If I do re-install, can I install on top of the current XP (just like the old Win9x days), and keep all software installed on the HD? Or I have to re-install all software again (tons of them)?
Thanks again.

i just installed a new motherboard ... changed from an intel 815 chipset to a via [something or other, new to vias] .. i got a bluescreen too
the thing that seems fix most problems of this nature is .. just boot to the xp install cd .. go through like you're doing a normal install .. it'll detect the installation you have currently .. ask you if you want to overwrite or repair .. you say repair .. and it just goes through the last part of the install process .. redetects all your hardware, resets configurations .. and bam .. you're back up
[by resets configurations .. i mean stuff that doesn't fall within the realm of 'user customizations' .. so you most likely won't lose any of your stuff]
hope this helps

Hya,
These blue screen after a motherboard change are normal. The are most often generated because the bootcontroller is not exactly the same as on the old board.
You can prevent it by adding the drivers for the new motherboard befor you do the actual switch. If the OS is booted with the old board it just errors that the newly added drivers don't work because the hardware isn't functioning. After swapping the board XP will still error about drivers, but now it the old driver that doesn't work. But booting XP shouldn't be a problem.
HP Navigator CD's do this trick by default; it installs drivers for every SCSI/IDE controller that Microsoft has. This way the disks can be put in another system in witch it probably will boot without problems.
Of course your BSOD might be caused something else, please tell us the Stopcode, this give us a change to look further . . .
Cheers!

The Stop Code is like this:
0x0000007B (0xF9E62640, 0xC0000034,0x00000000,0x00000000)
I've booted from the WINXP CD, and selected option R (repair), and got into the command console. But, there seems no command will repair the problem I have.

I had the same problem when I upgraded all my components. I had to format and re-install to get everything working again.
Good luck.

When you change boards you must use the same chipset manufacturer in order for it to work without a reinstall. If you notice while the drivers load in safe mode, XP loads drivers specifically to support the chipset you are currently using. In our computer shop, I ghost generic clones for each Intel, Via and SIS chipsets.
If you go past the recovery console, and actually in to the setup like your doing a clean install, you should receive an option to repair the existing installation.
Good Luck.
