What is your process for backing up your movies?
Hello All,

This has been discussed a while back, and I thought it would be nice to refresh this topic since I could use different suggestions.

Originally, for backing up my movie collection, I would use DVD Decrypter, then load up the image created with Daemon Tools, and then run it through Intervideo DVD COPY 2 Platinum. This worked out very well - when I had the Plextor 708-A DVD Burner.

Well my burner kicked the bucket a few months ago, and I recently picked up a Lite-On SOHW-1633S DVD Burner, which does not seem all that compatible with InterVideo DVD COPY.

What was so great about DVD COPY Platinum, was that you were allowed to pick which chapters to include (could get rid of extra features if you wanted and other stuff) and would shrink whatever you wanted that went over the the amount allowed on 1 DVD so that it would fit - without having too much of an impact on quality.

I was wondering what other software out there do other's use and what process do you go by? Has anyone heard of any new Programs that are supposed to produce exceptional quality copies?

Thanks,
-SlickVic78

I use DVD Shrink 3.2 and then run it through Nero.
The DVD Shrink is the best.
Quality copies 70-100%

If you already have Nero, that will do ripping, shrinking and burning. I use AnyDVD in combination with that, or CloneCD, DVD Decryptor, or DVD Shrink. Usually it's AnyDVD/CloneDVD, but the results are all pretty much the same.

DVD FAB 1.9.88 and AnyDVD I think are the best, if you want the full DVD copied. In the odd situation Fab does not work I use DVD Shrink 3.1.7.6, which is also very good.
With either DVD Fab or Shrink, NERO is used for burning.

My combo is DVDShrink 3.2 and Nero for burning..
If I'm in a hurry I will rip to H/D with DVD-Decrypter
and use the above combo to process later.

Hello All,

Nice to hear from those who replied! Thanks for some suggestions! I do welcome other suggestions as well, so please keep them coming. So after the few posts I have read tonight, I ended up purchasing AnyDVD, and downloaded DVD Shrink.

So my new process is this:
  1. Copy movie to HD using DVD Decrypter
  2. Load image to Daemon Tools
  3. Run AnyDVD (having it remove all the adverts and trailers)
  4. Run through DVD Shrink
  5. Burn with Nero
I ended up running through this process and all seems to work very well. The programs you all suggested worked out awesome and very well compared to the other software I was using.

I could probably eliminate the step 1 and 2, but I am so used to that process that it remains.

Please keep the suggestions coming if there are any more. I welcome them!

Thanks!,
-SlickVic78

Can Decrypter possiblydo it any better than Nero?
And What can the first 2 steps in Slickvic78 procedure possibly add to the process?
