In a pretty surprizing move, Lenovo, biggest PC manufacterer of China has bought the PC division of Big Blue. The deal carries a neat 1,25 billion USD price tag, and suddenly gives the Chinese PC maker the number 3 spot worldwide.
Gone are the days of the IBM computer, one of the pioneers of the IT world as we now know it... In are the days of China becoming a real powerplayer in the world and looking to make big acquisitions abroad.
Analysts say this is just part of the path IBM is already following for a long time: to focus on higher-margin businesses such as computer services, software, more powerful server computers, storage and computer chips.
