AMD releases budget notebook chips
Advanced Micro Devices has started to ship the Sempron 3000+ chip for budget notebooks. The chip, which costs $134 in quantities of 1,000, will be included in notebooks from Packard Bell and Gericom for the European market this holiday season. Although Sunnyvale, Calif.-based AMD has made strides against Intel in servers and consumer desktops, the company has not seen the same sort of growth in the past year in notebooks. Over the next two years, it hopes to recharge its efforts with an energy efficient chip for notebooks.
