Xp Home And New Main Board

My boss's home computer has Windows XP Home, The AGP port has gone out and the main board has to be replaced. Will XP Home have to be registered through Microsoft again??? Is the main board ID contained in the bios chip and the swapping of the bios chip keep the same ID???

I'm pretty sure he is going to have to reactivate winXP, which means he has to call them up and tell them whats going on...

just replaced everything in my dads computer used the same XP home disk just had to reactivate , no phone call was required...

Hya,

Read this very interesting information on WPA. I'd say it all hardware is kept in the system (asuming network adapter isn't on the motherboard) reactivation shouldn't be nessecary.

From what I remember about WPA you shouldn't need to reactivate XP again unless you are changing more than the motherboard. Also remeber that if the motherboard isn't the same as the original one it is best to do a reformat anyways because you might experice some driver conflicts. Also if it has been over 120 days you don't need to call in to reactivate you can do it from the computer over the internet.
