Hey all,

I'm trying t start a computer building business where I would build a computer for someone and then install the software and stuff for them. Well, it looks like Windows will be an expensive part of the building process I was wondering what the cheapest route would be to go (legally). The cheapest I could find XP Home is $85, although I did see some COA (Cerificate of Authenticity) for $50. Could I use this? I don't even know what it is really.

Any ideas appreciated.

Also, don't say install linux or something, most users, especially new ones, will want Windows.

From what i understand, it would cost you $85 per installation on each machine. If this is the case, i would charge an extra $15 for each installation so that you make a profit. This would end up at an even $100 for the buyer.

Yeah, sounds like it. But how do companies like eMachines sell computers for like $300 or something when just the windows would cost at least $75? For the other software I'm looking at using free office suites and other freeware utilities.

eMachines use very low-end budget software (in most cases) and also get bulk licenses fees (if you sell x windows licenses, you get a rebate of x dollars). However, the small business isnt eligable for this kind of deal.

You can save a lot of money by using freeware office / antivirus / etc suites though
