thanks - probably there will be no need to uninstall sp2 - I suppose so it will give me back approx. 400MB of diskspace to delete these folders.

You know what check this.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Setup

for the value in the right pane ServicePackSourcePath

which should be set to C:\Windows\ServicePackFiles

If it is do not delete. So dont delete whatever path it specifies.

That folder is were some needed service pack files reside. In seems to me though its only used if you wish to use Windows File Protection.

All of these are:

c:\windows\system32
c:\windows\system32\dllcache
(SP1 And SP2)c:\windows\servicepackfiles\i386

So I would not delete it unless you do not care a rats behind about WFP. In that case I wouuld make a ghost backup before hand and see what happens. Of course make sure WFP is disabled.

There's a shareware tool called Update Cleanup that makes it easy to delete these $NtUninstallKB Service Pack / Patch folders and clean up the related Registry entries at the same time. Although it is not free, you are given a lengthy free trial which is more than enough time for you to clean up these folders.

I've used it for several months now and it seems to work fine.
