If this is going to happen, then a reliable, stand-alone hardware decoder needs to be developed. All current ones are buggy, regardless of the chipset used. I want to watch movies on my TV, not on my computer monitor, and my Lite-On LVD-2001 has never worked properly for me. Reading other forums gives the impression problems abound with other players as well.
If DiVX is to be successful, which I hope it will be because of the reduced file size but still stellar quality, DiVX hardware players need to play as well and as reliably as DVD players.
Just my 2 cents worth...
You should check the new Z330 DVD/MPEG4 Player should be out in a few days
i've een using the z300 for several months and only had problem with some of the latest xvid 1.0 movie encoded at really high quality.
The new z330 will fix that and the price is very competitive.
