I just added a 160 GB USB external HD to my WinXP Pro system. Are there any setting changes necessary for HD's greater than 120GB. I had a bit of trouble formatting the disk, although it worked ok. I ended up opening the case to extract the WD 160 IDE HD and pluggin it into my machine directly. Then I could format it ok. WDC's website has been really slow today, at times inaccessible. Hmm!

I have added 2 in the last 3 weeks or so and not had to alter any settings. Provided you have a recent mobo that supports up to 160 gb and above you will be ok.

Like Dog said you should not have any trouble getting it to work as long as the Mobo and the Bios support it and it really should have USB 2.0 for the best performance. If you have problem just shout and someone here will help

Thanks

The mobo is a P4C800-E, up to date. The ACOM USB/Firewire unit came formated with FAT32. As recommended I formated to NTFS using WinXP. I checked with PowerQuest Partition Magic which noted that the drive format was "BAD". I got pissed off and broke open the plastic case (voiding the warranty) and found a regular "old fashioned" IDE 160GB Western Digital HD. I put it on the IDE channel and formated it. No sweat. I guess everything is ok now, but no thanks to ACOM, whose web site, by the way, really sucks big time. Plus you have to register with address and telephone number to gain access to the useless FAQ's.

Big grin.
