In the last 4 month's i have had to RMA, or advise customers to RMA, 7 Maxtor drives- all from the Diamond MaX series. During the early hours of this morning i lost yet another Maxtor drive. The drive in question was 34 days old, it contained my favourites, my E-Mail Store and all my documents. I bought the drive because the IBM DeskStar that they previously resided on was getting noisy and occaisionally gave me a write delay error. Now's the annoying part- the IBM Deskstar is still running fine, if slightly noisy, yet the new 160GB Maxtor is toast. And i mean toast, i wasn't able to recover a single byte of information from the 100+ GB that were stored on it in 2 partitions.
I never used to have a problem with Maxtor equipment, it used to last for years without a problem. Now, however, i can only assume that they fired their old staff and employed monkeys to perform all assembly and design tasks. The latest drives last as long as a chocolate button in an oven. Needcless to say i will not be purchasing any more Maxtor equipment, if they can't provide equipment that will last till the end of it's warranty then they don't deserve either my money or the money of the customers that i have dilligently fed their way over the years.
They recently slashed the prices on their HDD's, i now know why- they are peddling crap.
