Problems With Norton

Can someone please help me with Norton?. I installed Norton INternet Security 2003 leaving out the accounts and productivity features. Now, it does not let visit secure sites such as banks, and other places where i ahve to login and I tried to uninstall the software and it says i have to logon as administrator but there is no place to logon because i did not install the accounts features.
Any ideas?

Have you tried using the System Restore feature in XP, to roll your machine back to the time prior to installing Norton?


Are you the administrator on YOUR machine?
If you are, you should be able to uninstall this and any other software.

Norton Stuff can be a real problem to un-install completely..you may want to go through the registry also and delete any references to Norton also..

if you can't uninstall it, you should check out symantec's sites for
how to do it - do a search for remove security 2003 plus your version of windows. e.g. Win98 or XP

If you can't uninstall via Add and Remove, you will probably have to download - Rnav2003.exe (removes the anti virus) and maybe RnisUPG.exe (removes the security stuff)as both the AV and Security programs have to be removed before you can reinstall NIS.

Can you open this program with the "run as" command ?

If yes you have to run it as administrator and change your settings

Have you entered the IP addresses of the sites you want to visit in the TRUSTED ZONE. If not, do it.

And thats why I will not put Norton Internet Security on my system..

Now I just use Norton firewall.

Software firewalls can be a huge pain in the arse. Think about a router - they dont mess with your os settings

Logon to your machine as "Administrator", then you can add remove it as long as you haver left it all there and not manually deleted parts of it.

Then follow the above advice about going to their web site for removal instructions, be sure to print them.
