I've Installed my Wireless Router and all the PC's & my Laptop connect to the Internet Fine and I can share my Files etc....

The Only problem I have is that I can't Update Windows via the Microsoft Site....I keep getting the following error.....

Quote:

Windows Update Error

Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested
page.

Select from any of the following pages for information about Windows Update
services, or send us your feedback.

Windows Update Home Page
About Windows Update
Support Information

Send error number to Microsoft (0x800A138F)
(Note This sends error information but does not create a support incident;
you may or may not receive a response.)
I have been here....

Code:
http://www.updatexp.com/0x800A138F.html
and tried all the Solutions but still can't get the Update Site to work properly........

I have tried Windows Update via the 56k Modem, bypassing the Wireless Router and this works......

I suspect that I need to open Up some Ports??? Am I right in this assumption.....

I tried Opening Up Port 443 as suggested in the Article, but no joy.....

Has NE1 any more ideas, or know which ports I may need to open, to be able to use the Windows Update Site properly....

Thanks for any input....

It's a wierd problem. I'm having the same issue on a Dell PowerEdge 2550 with a Gigabit card. The onboard 100MB card can connect to Windows Update site and scan/install no problem. When I use the Gigabit card I get the exact error you described above. Funny thing is that the Gigabit card used to have no problem connecting to the Windows update site.

I'm not sure what the deal is but if I find anything I'll post it back here.

Well, how do you like that.

I'm not sure what did it, but I went in to configure the card to see if there would be any settings I could tweak. I change Flow Control from Off to Auto and the Windows update site worked. Just to satisfy my curiosity, I then turned Flow Control back to Off and the update still came up without any problems.

Go figure. The net change is zero but perhaps "touching" the network card by making a change to its configuration (then back again) reset whatever bit or setting was causing the odd behavior.

FWIW.
