I am setting up a wireless linksys network for a friend. he has a laptop with XP pro a home computer with windows 98 se and a hp laserjet usb printer. I know if windows xp was on the main PC he could remotely print to that printer from the laptop. The only problem is the main pc is win 98se. IS it possible for me to set up remote printing that way, without the use of a usb jet direct and putting the printer on the network?

Stringent is an unknown quantity at this point
If the printer has a network card you can plug it stright into your network and set up the computers to use TCP/IP printing ports instead.

Also if the two boxes can talk to each other (try pinging each other) and are in the same workgroup (I don't think you have a domain since there is no server) then you can just share the printer on the 98 box and print to the shared printer from the xp machine. I don't know how you have the network set up but I would prob set it up something like this:

98 - Ip address of 192.168.1.1

xp - Ip address of 192.168.1.2

workgroup - HOME

Then just make sure file and printer sharing is enabled on the 98 box and right click the printer to set up the share.

Hope this helps some

/JD
