Ready to ban it?

House bill would prohibit smoking in public places Representative from Great Bend admits it's a long shot

BY STEVE PAINTER AND BUD NORMAN

The Wichita Eagle

TOPEKA - State Rep. John Edmonds of Great Bend, no stranger to hot-button issues, is seeking to put Kansas on the leading edge of efforts to eliminate secondhand smoke.

His proposal, now pending before the House committee he chairs, would ban smoking virtually every place people gather, including workplaces, restaurants, bars and outdoor sporting events.
Personally.. I'm totally for it!!

I heard this morning on 95.3FM Vancouver that second hand smoke gives a 90% more risk to breast cancer...

Though I know that smoking outside will not be effected here too much.. too much of a threat on "civil liberaties".. bahhh...

in Political forum cause its regarding smoking and I understand that some people might feel a need to defend their kruch...

DopeWeasel can only hope to improve
They just recently banned smoking in certain public places here in Houston TX as well. I've battled with my addiction to smoking for years. Just wish they'd open some hash bars here in the US that way we'd at least have an alternative to tobacco.

Yo! Dopebuoy!

BetaOne does NOT endorse the usage of intoxicants!

Our members are, however, free to make thier own decisions.

I hope it passes.

I for one think every damn sig. company should be put out of business. Or at least be held more responsible if someone dies from their product.

I just think should not be able to make and sell a product that kills people. Yeahp this includes guns too. And by kills people I mean using commen sense. Not like dont sell milk because it can kill people. lol

I just think its sad that Americans has put up with this BS so long. Even worse the govnment.

The govnment's primary goal is suppose to be protecting our lifes not making us happy. Guess that fu**ed up a 100 years ago.

This is nothing new in New York. Bloomberg got a lot of heat because of this. I, personally, am for it. I used to smoke. Nothing beats being able to smell your food while your eating in a restaurant instead of smelling the smoke coming from the table next to you!

Funny what some in the government can try to get away with under the guise of the "common good".

It's a wonder we have come as far as we have without government's intervention - how on earth did the pioneers and immigrants survive when they got off the mayflower without a government protecting them?

Oh well, at least they didn't have to pay into social security - they relied more on their own personal security.

See you guys later, I think I'm gonna go smoke a couple of cigarettes...

I stopped over 20 years ago, and even though I support your right to smoke 'em, JD, there is no doubt you will have a lung disease of some sort if you continue. When I stopped, they were less than 50 cents a pack!

Chicago has tried to ban cigarettes in public places a few times recently, and in most INDOOR public places, you can't smoke as of now..

Besides, I have seen machines in chicago getting $9.00 for a pack of smokes..
God, is it really isn't worth it??

I stopped 8 years ago but I reckon that's a personal decision.

I have never really understood why it is wrong to smoke a cigarette which, just maybe, can do damage to someone who happens innocently to be in the vicinity of the smoker while it is OK to drive a car which, undoubtedly, can do damage to someone who happens innocently to be in the vicinity of the driver. The usual argument that the car is "necessary" and that smoking is a "pastime" seems to dump any question of a moral basis to the position out of the window.

Just the personal opinion of a boring old fart. And by the way, I do have cancer in remission and nothing whatsoever to do with smoking. Do I get my money back?
