i have a cable connection 128 up/400 down. I know that when people download from me they only get 17k max(thats with only one user connected). whenever i download i can get up to 100k. whenever someone uploads to me they can get up to around 50k. i've been told that 17k is about as good as it gets for serving people.

when i first got cable i ran it with like 3 or 4 users but i don't remember the speed they got. i thought it was better than 2-5k though, but don't remember for sure.

i don't know much about this kind of stuff, but still trying to help out. btw, i haven't done any tweaking or anything. thanks.

Hi there,

I think these values are alright. I mysel van 256/1024, and download doesn't go beyond 120/130 kbps and upload stick to max 25 kbps.

So I think ur connexion is quite alright.

On cable, is the speed stable, or does it go up/down with like a yoyo. It is here, so I switched to Asynchone DSL.

Cheers,

Le Cactus

NB How many adams are there . . .

Most cable systems are setup as small networks, the more people using the less bandwidth per user. People are always going on and off so there is the yoyo effect. You can usually guess when your transferring with a cable user.

On my ADSL I get 384/768 - uploads top out around 43 downloads around 86

He pc..

As I'm sure in the states the 384/768 is quite afforable.

In holland almost impossible to get an higher upload speed than the 256kb. Im jelous at your 384. You can get higher here, but you'll neet to have a business account, and of ourse they'll charge you business prices.

Since permenant telefone connecions to the internet are almost free in the usa (or so we all believe here in europe) I presume the DSL or Cable connecions are also reasonably afforable. Here there technologies are ather new and therefore quite expensive.

I wonder what BC has. I think he has a buiness related connection, if not', and that connexion is just a normal consumer connection, I think I'm going too immigrate to Norway
Right now I'm paying EUR 83,35 for my connection, and I thing it outragious!

People ,downloading from your ftp,are actually using your upload speed, not their download speed....
your upload speed is:128kbps.........(8kbps =1KBps)128kbps:8kbps=16KB,so an average 17KB is actually more than your provider has claimed you'd get.....

No, no, no NO

At twice your costs, I presume U would get twice your speed. That is 160 kbps.

USA Rocks!

Anyhow, I still believe Norway rocks, or BC is a very welthy man

Cheers all, and good night. Going to take some shut-eye as in Zzzzzzzzz. . . .

i'm paying $40 a month for that, i think it sucks, thinking of going dsl wireless or whatever they call it here. i couple of months ago they raised the download speed for us but they won't raise the upload speed.

It's hard to find a provider with higher upload speed than 256kbps for a fair price,dude.....usually you can upgrade your account by your own provider too,but it's a lot of extra money...
