When you use the internet, your computer has a unique number which identifies your computer to other computers on the internet. This unique number is known as the computer's IP (Internet Protocol) Address.
For most people, when they connect to the Internet, their ISP (Internet Service Provider) automatically allocates an IP address for the duration of that connection.
There are times when we need to know what IP Address the ISP has allocated to our computer. This can be difficult and irritating to find. So now there is a simple, free application to take the hassle out of it all.

202.180.135.176

ipAddress is a simple application written for Windows 95 / 98 / ME / NT 4 / 2000. ipAddress was written because a lot of people were asking how to determine the IP Address of their computer. There are other ways to do it, by using the command prompt etc, but people wanted an easier way.
ipAddress displays the current IP Address(es) of your computer in a floating window which can be resized and set to be always on top if you want. You can also change the background colour to make ipAddress fit in with your personal preference of colour schemes.
The latest version of ipAddress includes an option to copy the IP Address to the Windows clipboard so that you can paste it into another application.

ipAddress is freeware.

Does anyone really think it's "difficult and irritating" to type 'ipconfig'?

I don't.

And if your on windows, and IPConfig doesn't work (witch prolly means your using a really ol version of Windows) you could try WinIPCfg.

But, then again, both programs will (by default) tell you your local IP address.

Use http://photono-software.de/Stealther...=&language=eng to see the IP address the outside world see you by. Now need to install any third party tool, just surf to it

LOL ! yeah, same Q here.

Otherwise, Start > Connect To > *Your Connection* > (Right Click) > Properties > Details:
There you go Client IP Address.

I just forgot the command ipconfig. Thanks for reminding E3

btw, that was freeware :P

P.S:
Le Cactus,

U were right m8
ipconfig seems not working properly in XP SP1.
But winipcfg doesn't work either.

Pretty much useless I would say.
The newbie maybe, but then many newbies run their computers by the book (or "install-cd") and aren't aware that their ISP maybe are directing all http-traffic thru a proxy. Then again they might be behind a little router (for sharing the Internet connection) and thus might get confused with the different results.
Also, if they need to know their IP they either aren't newbies any more, or should have learned enough to get the ip without installing extra utils.

Ah, I'm not sure what I'm blabbing about here. Maybe just the fact that there are some mistakes that can be done. Any newbie can use the little util from castlesoft (there are a lot of theese btw). How many newbies can determine if the figures returned are correct?

Every computer connected to the Internet has a unique identifier called an IP address. On many networks, the IP address of a computer is always the same. On other networks, a random IP address is assigned each time a computer connects to the network. This is what we are referring to when we ask if you have a static or a dynamic IP address. If a system uses dynamic addressing, the IP can change quite often.

To connect your System to the Internet, you need to make sure your computer can accept incoming data from the Internet. You can use traceroute to see if your computer is behind a "firewall." The screen will show all the hops across the internet to your computer. If the hops stop at an IP address other than your computer's IP, you may be behind a firewall or proxy server.

One more thing to consider is whether your network uses internal addresses. In this case, the IP address of your machine as reported by your TCP/IP settings is not reachable from outside your network. Internal IP addresses begin with 10, 172 and 192.
