Cheap overclockable laptop on the bench
Hardware Roundupc

LAPTOPLOGIC reviews the MSI Megabook S271 MS1058 ultra portable laptop. Inside it you will probably get moer than you bargain for, despite the price. First it is an overclocker friendly laptop - something rare - then it is built around a dual core Turion - the TL50 which is the slowest Turion, it has a rather large keyboard, it is rather cheap and is equipped with an Azalia HD audio chip. Looks like a Sony laptop but costs a fraction.

Bjorn3D tests the Powercolor X1900GT video card which is aimed at competing with the 7900GT> It comes with 256MB memory and two Dual DVI links. It is still a single slot card with the traditional high end cooling solution. You get a decent accessory/software bundle and you can overclock it quite a bit. 594MHz/873MHz was the maximum without having recourse to mods. A pity though that only ATI cards are included in the test.

Another laptop reviewed is the Averatec 1455 which you can see at BIOSMagazine. This is a dark blue laptop - weird colour scheme - with a widescreen display and a full size keyboard for much less than the design would suggest. It lacks some power under the hood. Powered by an AMD Turion, it has only 512MB memory unfortunately. The rest feels entry-levelish as well. 4200rpm 80GB HDD, integrated GPU and a Dvd writer. It has a low price and for once, you get what you paid for.

The Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wifi edition motherboard is dissected at Bit-tech. This top of the range model supports AM2 socket, has Asus's proprietary AI lifestyle features. It is built around the nForce 590 SLI MPC and has two GbE Ethernet ports, a whopping seven SATA controllers and support for ten USB ports. Of course you have a Wifi card and a substantial accessory bundle. It is relatively cheap for the segment it is aiming at. Only thing that might deter you from purchasing it is the forthcoming Core2.

Tomshardware reviews four Quiet and Powerful mini PCs for the Pentium D and Pentium M range. Biostar, Shuttle, MSI and Gigabyte have all released such products. They come with their own set of disadvantages, noticeably space inside. Moreover, Aopen also sent a Pentium M only unit. We have yet to see a 965based mini PC which will support Core2 systems.

PCstats reports on the ASRock 775XFire-eSATA2/A/ASR motherboard. It is a full size mid range motherboard that supports Crossfire complete with 5.1 audio support, 10/100 NIC, USB ports and external Serial ATA controllers. PC Stats calls it a heck of a value. You might not agree with that but you will appreciate that the motherboard is one of the fastest non overclocked socket 775 on the market.
