SECURITY WATCHDOG Sophos is warning internet users to watch out for a fake email offer from British posh food outlet and bad clothes provider Marks and Spencer.


The dodgy mail offers one hundred quid to dish out at any of its stores provided the user forwards the message to at least eight other people, as well as copying in a legitimate mail address at Persimmon Homes. Blokes at both Permisson and Marks and Sparks however say that the mail has not been endorsed by them and it should be deleted post haste.

The main concern about the email is that forwarding other people's email addresses can leave them open to attacks from internet types lacking in scruples.

"Hoaxes of this nature may appear harmless but they can waste valuable bandwidth, impact staff productivity and place email addresses into the wrong hands," says Graham Cluley of Sophos. "Email spreads like wildfire and forwarding one copy could result in 100 more being sent."
