Samsung has started mass production of their new 256Mb XDR (eXtreme Data Rate) DRAM. This memory is being dubbed by Samsung as the world's fastest. It's a staggering 10 times faster than DDR-SDRAM memory and five times faster than RDRAM.
Created for multimedia applications, the new memory is geared towards users with thirsty applications that require fast memory to process lots of data.
To transfer data in a stable manner at these incredibly high speeds, Samsung is using Differential Rambus Signal Level technology.
"XDR technology has tremendous potential to become a leading memory solution for today's highest-performance multimedia applications and we're quite enthusiastic about its prospects," said Mueez Deen, marketing director, of Samsung Electronics Co.
