SATA or ATA133 HD?

Hi there guys.

Just a few questions:

1. Is a SATA HD much faster than a ATA133 HD?
2. Can the two co-exist on one system?
3. What are the benefits of SATA over ATA133?

I prefer Sata and i also think that SATA drive are faster then ATA 133 drive!
They also can CO-exist on a System!!

SATA is theoretically but not yet actually faster. It coexists happily with PATA (I have 2 PATA and 2 SATA running together). It uses a thinner (7 connectors rather than 40) and potentially longer (up to a metre) cable - easier to route and much less disruptive to airflow through the machine. It's the future.

smaller installation footprint, thats for sure...better air flow as well, and will be faster soon...

Definately better airflow with SATA --- plus much easier to put multiple hard drives in one machine (Ive got 5 in this machine) No need for that horrid Ultra ATA PCI card anymore as I always felt that was a huge bottle-neck in the machine.

I moved my machine over to a SATA main hard drive for my O/S from IDE and I can honestly say it seems to of made a slight improvement in the overall system performance.

i was going to say, I have both in my system at work and can't tell a speed difference, but that has already been mentioned.

I have 4 HD in my PC and I need another one. I have two empty SATA connector and my next HD will be a SATA for shure

I have a 250 GB Maxtor SATA and a 200 GB SATA Seagate, plus 2 IDE HD's in this machine. The Maxtor runs at 50C all the time, even at rest, while the Seagate and the other two run at 39-40. I get nervous when temps run high.

I've taken the Maxtor out and plug it back in when I need extra strorage. I've acquired a really nicely built Acomdata external USB 250 IDE drive with an exhaust fan to solve this stupid problem! The 4 hd's when all installed in the Antec case sit horizontally with equal spacing and ventillation.

Never saw any problems of coexistence except with DOS based utilities.
