what is the best format to email videos?

at work a teacher wants to do an internet speech class and she want to give the students the choice to either mail her a tape or let them email their speeches to her. I think each speech will last from 5-10 minutes.

so what is the best way for them to do it? anyone have any tutorials? thanks in advance.

I'm kind of new in this area, but a .wmv format would work well.

Although, a 5 minute video clip with audio will still run 11MB.

Like KingCobra, I would also strongly suggest you Windows Media Video 9.

For 1150 Kbps MPEG1 conversions you can decrease the bit rate as low as 382 Kbps for WMV9 and still preserve the original quality.
  • You will need Windows Media Encoder 9 which you can download from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...series/encoder
  • Open Windows Media Encoder 9
  • Cancel the Wizard.
  • Click the Properties button
  • Source from: File and browse for your AVI file
  • Go to Output tab and Use the encode to file option
  • Browse for the output file you are going to create
  • Go to Compression and the press teh Edit button
  • Audio: Mode: Bitrate VBR, Codec: Windows Media Audio 9
  • Video: Mode: Bitrate VBR, Codec: Windows Media Video 9
  • Go to the tab next to General
  • Audio Format: 48 Kbps, 48 kHz, stereo VBR (choose 44 kHz if your source file is 44 kHz) (or Lowest Quality you are happy with)
  • Video Size: Same as Input
  • Frame Rate: 25 or 30 depending on your AVI file (put 30 if unsure)
  • Key frame level : 4
  • Video Bit Rate (average): 250 K (or Lowest Quality you are happy with)
  • Decoder complexity: Complex
  • Press OK
  • Go to Attributes tab and fill your info (optional)
  • Press Start Encoding
Cheers,
McoreD
