Decided to give Mandrake a try, totally different install to RedHat - another time maybe!

Anyways, I installed Lilo with graphical interface as my boot loader onto /dev/hdc (not the MBR, the BR on my second hard drive). Used Bootpart in WIndows to add aline to my WinXP Boot Loader so I can choose Mandrake. All I got when I selected Mandrake was:

LI 02 02 02 02 (02 just kept coming up). Thankfully I created a boot disk and could boot into Mandrake where I found a tool to configure the Boot Loader. Tried installing to /dev/hdc1 same thing. Any ideas? I don't particulaly want to use a boot disk all the time, would like to get it sorted.

The layout of my drives are:

/dev/hda - NTFS, FAT32, FAT32, FAT32
/dev/hdc - linux boot, linux ex3, swap, NTFS, FAT32, FAT32

Any pointers are appreciated!

TIA.

Try installing LiLo to /dev/hdc2. Make sure LiLo knows where the kernel is.

Treid that still the same

I reinstalled it, and blew away the old partitons and re partitioned them. Still the same thing. Might try again with Grub. But my partiton table is bad (according to Partition Magic) so I might low level the whole disk and try again ...

No, you don't have to do that. Partition has a bit of difficulty reading partition tables created by Linux partitioning tools. Don't worry about it, I get the same error.

Heh too late, only had my games on it anyways nothing that can't be installed again.

I low leveled it, then installed Mandrake let it auto partition (I resized the /home so I could have some free space for my other Win partitions) did everything, installed Grub to hdc1 and it worked first time. Oh well. Now i gotta format the other bits.

Life goes on in the land of computers! I must say I am beginning to like Mandrake 9 over RedHat 8 ...

Second that! Flanderz. Just installed Mandrake 9 and am having success with it. Particularly like the automatic mounting of the fat partitions which makes moving linux files around a lot easier as I learn about linux.

Right now I'm going through the Samba install/configuration process and am totally confused.
