ok.. with my Audigy 1 card and 5.1 speakers, they aren't working right, I'm not sure if it's creative's drivers or not, here goes
If I set it to 5.1 speakers, I get sound out of the front left, front right, and center speakers, and the sub, and the rear speakers don't work, and if I put it to 4.1, the front, rear, and sub work, but not center, I've triple checked my connections and I know they're right, checked the speakers themselves too, if I plug the rear speakers into the front inputs and the front in the rear, then in 5.1 mode i get sound from the rear, but not the front
i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything creative, but it actually made it worse (go figure, i hate creative sometimes.....), other than a reformat, which I think I need, any other ideas?

Ummmm, did you alter the speaker type in the CP? I know i have to alter both my soundcard speaker type and the default windows speaker type befor mine work correctly. Sometimes 1 window just won't talk to another :P

I had this problem once. I thought I had put the three cables to the audigy in the right order but I hadn't. My card has gold plated inputs with no color coding. Try switching the plugs around when someone is listening. And also check the front/rear fader ofcourse
A great resource is news://news.creative.com/
It doesn't matter if you use the creative mixer or the speaker setup in control panel, they do the same and should be set to 5.1 if that's what you want.

Get rid of the stupid Creative drivers. They are nothing but crappy products from a similar company. Download and Install kX Project drivers for the audigy. You can download them at
hxxp://kxproject.spb.ru/index.php?skip=1
I have been using these drivers for the past few months and I am never going back to the shitty creative drivers again.

I've tried those before BPP, and may go back to them if I can't figure out a solution to this
I at least figured out what the problem is... why it's doing it I don't know, in the creative driver set i'm using you have to enable CMSS3D, else you won't get any sound from the rear speakers in 5.1 mode, but, for some reason, whenever I have any EAX effect enabled, CMSS3D doesn't work.... go figure
