Nvidia grabs market share back from ATI
JON PEDDIE RESEARCH released figures showing that the desktop graphics market, worth $1.93 billion in Q3 2005, has shown Nvidia has managed to grab back market share.
Lisa Epstein, a senior analyst at Peddie, said that ATI and Nvidia continued to denominate, sorry dominate, the desktop graphics chip market.
She said: "Nvidia had trailed ATI in the discrete desktop segment for four consecutive quarters. However, with the launch of its flagship GeForce 7 series and the continued success of the GeForce 6 series, Nvidia was able to regain lost segment share in Q3 2005."
She said the delays ATI had bringing its latest tech to market allowed Nvidia to grab back share. Around 51 million desktop graphics devices shipped in Q3 2005, with 30.7 million being integrated parts. Intel claimed 36.9% of the desktop market, ATI held 23.6% and Nvidia held 22% share. Intel's market share declined compared to the second quarter of 2005.
