Some nit wit hacked my site today, fortunatley, they only changed the index.php files (one for my portal, the other my forum) to a picture.

Was wondering,

a) how they did it
how can I stop it again

If they had ftp access they could have ripped the site, but they didn't. It appeared to be a script which hunted down index.php ...

Some brazillian defacing crew or sommink.

I've had servers hacked in the past too, so I know how frustrating it is. It's almost a 'cat and mouse' game between the fix/patch and the hack now though. There's a lot of automated scripts that run around the world hitting every IP they can, and searching for any vulnerabilities. Check your server logs and you'll be amazed at all the hits from the script kiddies! I always make sure IT has the latest updates on the boxes now and it seems to keep them out. It's an ongoing battle though so make sure you have backups, and good luck .

All the best,
E3

Cheers. Thankfully it was only my index.php files which I had anyways. Sad though. In any case currently my whole site is messed up, and so is the host. I guess they got hit bad as well or something

Seems as if my hosts got hacked as all their site has been screwed, and they coer it up by saying its under maintenance! LOL.

No site as of yet, I'll be hanging around here for a bit then

You guys should find another place to run your avatars and sigs from, in the meantime then .

Edit: Robin... I see your host is back up now (who's the host?)... Congrats!
