Hi,

Was wondering if anyone can shed some light on this for me:

I have installed Enterprise Server from "Supernet_rc1.iso - 3in1 .net Rc1 (build 3663) Cd" by khayeung.

I have installed Active Directory so it is a domain controller.

Installed XP Corp on my laptop to make sure it is all working ok...but....

It seems to takes ages to log in after entering password on ctrl-alt-del logon screen! Logging in a local admin is fast, but not when logging in as a user on the domain.

I am not sure why this is.

Has anybody else encountered this? Or have I set it up wrong?

Many thanks

Not to well up on this one but is it possible that the server is trying to map the networked drives. ie the drives on the laptop?

Dog, I haven't shared/mapped any drives yet. It is a clean install of both .NET (server) and Pro (client).

Could it be anything else?

I think this one of the disadvantages when activating the Active Directory, even on the Win2k Server have the same issue, its very slow to login when active directory is enabled....

it's just me..

@war59312: cheers m8

Yeah I think you guys are right active directory has slowed it down! Oh well, guess it's something we all have to live with.

I have another problem though. When a client pc (xp pro) logs in onto the domain, it takes ages logging in too. Sits there saying "applying computer settings". Is there a setting i need to change on the client to enable it to log in quicker.

Cheers for your all help.

Check your policies also. If there are a lot of policies being pushed down to the client from the domain, it will affect the logon time tremendously.
