DVD to WMV9 with WMA9 Professional 5.1 Channel Surround Sound
Why Windows Media?
This is the most asked question from people, especially from expert users, who already made back-ups with other formats such as DivX and XviD. Windows Media is Microsoft's own standard, which offers high audio and video quality within relatively small file sizes.
There are three key advantages in using Windows Media for your DVD back-ups:
1. Standard format and codecs
2. Superior audio and video quality
3. Higher portability potential
4. Less vulnerable to DirectShow problems
Standard format means that you can play your Windows Media Video (WMV) file in any Windows Media Player (version 7 or higher is suggested for better playback performance) equipped pc without the need of any additional software or codec (Windows Media Player will automatically download any additional required component), allowing you to watch them almost everywhere.
Superior audio and video are another strong point of WMV.
While video quality is comparable to DivX and XviD, allowing near DVD quality at CD sizes, audio quality is amazingly better: WMA (or Windows Media Audio) allows you to save more space for the video or obtain near loss less audio quality, especially with WMA9Pro which supports surround sound audio. Another frequently asked question is if WMV files can be played on a home DVD player. The answer is a bit complicated, as like the other formats WMV playback is supported only by some home players.
Anyways, unlike competition more and more companies are introducing WMV capable players, so in two or three years you will easily find them.
