RAR is a general purpose archiving and compression program competing with/replacing programs such as PKZip, ARJ, and others. RAR offers significantly improved compression ratios, easier use and a cheaper price as well as supporting long file names, disk spanning, and self-extracting file creation.
The following changes were made in WinRAR 3.40 Beta 2:
- RAR and WinRAR display the operation progress while repairing an archive containing the recovery record
- Previous beta could create volumes by 2 bytes larger than specified
- "Select all" button in "Settings/Integration" dialog did not select Z archive format
- WinRAR shell extension did not display "Archive" property sheet in properties of 7z archives
- "Convert" command ignored archives with uppercase characters in the file name extension
