I burned a data DVD tonight with the new Plextor PX708A using Verbatim media. The DVD was 4215MB and it took 1 hour and 13 minutes to burn. I used Nero to burn it. Anyone have any idea what's going on?
Computer specs:
Intel 3.0 Ghz
2 Gig Ram
250 Gig SATA hard drive

Did you check the DMA status of your drive?

What did Nero show in the burn speed box? Mine generally shows the max that the media I put in will support: usually 4X, which means a DVD that size in about 15-20 mintues or so.

@roadworker....That might be the problem, in Computer Management it shows the following IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers:
Intel® 8280 1EB Ultra ATA Starage Controllers
Intel® 8280 1EB Ultra ATA Starage Controllers
Primary IDE Channel
Primary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel
Secondary IDE Channel
The first Primary Channel shows Device 0, Transfer Mode: DMA if afailable and Current Transfer Mode: PIO Mode
Device 1 Current, Not Applicable
The second Primary Channel shows Device 0, Transfer Mode: DMA if available and Current Transfer Mode: Ultra DMA Mode 5
Device 1 Current, Not Applicable
The first Secondary Channel shows the same as the first Primary Channel
The second Secondary Channel shows Device 0, Transfer Mode: DMA if available and Current Transfer Mode: Not Applicable
Device 1 Current, Not Applicable
I'm running a Asus P4C800-E Deluxe Main Board with on board raid.
I have 1 SATA hard drive, 1 Plextor PX 708A DVDR and 1 Plextor 52x CDRW.
I tried changing the PIO channels to DMA and re-booted but it came up the same. I'm sure that it will have to be set in the bios but I'm not sure how it needs to be.
------------------------------
@rikytik It shows that I'm burning at 8X

I have a P4C800-E and a Plextor 708A as well. Eerything was left as default. I'm not running raid, however. and have just one SATA drive as well. Sorry I can't offer any idea.

Your Plexies should be connected on seperate ide channels as master, since your sata harddisk is connected to its own controller.
The Plextors should be running in UDMA mode 2.
If they still run in PIO after this setup, you can try to uninstall you Intel busmaster drivers and replace them by windows XP's native ones...
Lots of branded busmaster drivers cause problems with atapi devices...

I'll check tommorow and make sure they're on different controllers. If they are do I just uninstall all 6 channels and controllers listed in device manager, reboot and let XP pick them back up.
Thanks for the help

Hey guys after un-installing my Primary and Secondary Channels and re-booting my PC, I now have DMA mode enabled for both channels. I just completed burning a DVD+R 4x Verbatim media at 8x speed, it contains 4327 MB of data and the burn was completed in 8 minutes and 3 seconds. Thanks for the help. Tech Support at Alienware sucks big time, they sent an email back and said that over one hour was the correct speed to burn a 4 gig DVD. Needless to say I sent a total of three e-mails explaining that they needed proper training and voiced my displeasure with their so called tech support. At least it all worked out in the end.
